GRB Ball Bearing

Description

GRB sealed ball bearings for pool and spa pump motors. EMQ (Electric Motor Quality) quality with C3 internal clearance — the exact specification of pump motor manufacturers, offered in four sizes covering the majority of motors installed in Quebec.

Find your size

Size Bore (shaft) Outside diam. Width Dyn. load
6202-2RS-16-C3 16 mm (0.630") 35 mm (1.378") 11 mm (0.433") ≈ 7.8kN (1,750lb)
6203-2RS-C3 17 mm (0.669") 40 mm (1.575") 12 mm (0.472") ≈ 9.95kN (2,240lb)
6204-2RS-C3 20 mm (0.787") 47 mm (1.850") 14 mm (0.551") ≈ 12.7kN (2,855lb)
6205-2RS-C3 25 mm (0.984") 52 mm (2.047") 15 mm (0.591") ≈ 14.0kN (3,150lb)

The most reliable way to choose: read the reference engraved on the edge of the bearing you are removing. Otherwise, measure the outside diameter — it is the dimension that distinguishes the four sizes at first glance (35, 40, 47 or 52 mm).

Note on the 6202-16 — This is not the standard 6202. Its bore is 16 mm, not 15 mm. The outside and width are identical, only the center hole changes by one millimeter. A 15 mm will not fit on a 16 mm shaft, and the reverse installs with play and quickly destroys itself. Check before ordering.

What EMQ means

EMQ stands for Electric Motor Quality. These are bearings manufactured to tighter tolerances than common industrial bearings, with a cage and grease chosen to run silently and without vibration for thousands of hours in a motor. A pump motor runs 8 to 12 hours a day all season long — this is a much more demanding use than a machine that starts three times a day. This is precisely the difference between an EMQ bearing and a cheap generic bearing: the generic one works, but it growls and it does not last two seasons.

What C3 means

The C3 internal clearance is increased compared to the standard clearance. A motor that heats up expands its shaft, which comes to tighten the bearing. Without extra clearance, the bearing forces, overheats, and breaks. The C3 absorbs this expansion and keeps the bearing free at operating temperature. All pump motor manufacturers specify C3.

Double rubber seal (2RS)

Both faces are sealed by a rubber seal: moisture, dust, and water splashes from the equipment room stay outside, and the grease stays inside. Factory lubricated for life — no maintenance, no grease nipple.

Signs you need to replace your bearings

Continuous growling or whistling, squeaking on startup, vibrations in the pump body, abnormally hot motor, or shaft hard to turn by hand once the motor is unplugged. A worn bearing that is not replaced damages the shaft and eventually burns the stator — a $30 repair becomes a complete motor replacement.

Installation tip

Replace the two motor bearings at the same time: they have accumulated the same hours. The front bearing (turbine side) and the rear bearing (fan side) are often different sizes — check both and order accordingly. Take advantage of the motor being disassembled to also replace the mechanical seal.

Compatibility

These sizes cover the majority of North American and European pool and spa pump motors, notably A.O. Smith / Century / Regal Beloit, Emerson / US Motors and Leroy Somer motors mounted on Hayward, Pentair, Jacuzzi, Sta-Rite pumps and spa packs. Always confirm by the reference engraved on your existing bearing.
